Origin
Not surprisingly the ‘Westie’, as it is affectionately called, originated from Scotland and was originally used for hunting badgers, foxes and vermin. This use is also what has earned its place in the ‘Terrier’ Group. In the 17th century these dogs were known as white Scottish terriers and it was not until 1904 that they were classified with the name they have today.
